The Security Supervisor oversees the security team, evaluates security and safety programs and systems, and provides guest assistance. This position reports to the Security Manager.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provides effective leadership and management over all security operations and programs; patrol, locksmith program, fire safety program, security operations center, dangerous animal protection program (DAPP), alarm systems, electronic access control, venomous reptile relocation program, native bat removal program, and the field training program.
- Pro-actively identifies security, safety, risk management, fire preparedness/mitigation needs, including coordination with San Diego Fire Marshal inspections and ensures that any identified deficiency are addressed and resolved to the highest standards.
- Maintains accurate training records and coordinates required training and drills for the Security Department and Wildlife Care, in accordance with California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation standards, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
- Identifies violations of law and coordinates safe and effective resolutions with regional law enforcement agencies. Responds to guest misconduct and medical calls for service.
- Develops and maintains work schedules for all security department team members and the contracted San Diego Police Department, Special Events Security Services.
- Reviews incident reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and compliance with legal and organizational standards.
- Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other first responders to cultivate and nurture collaborative relationships.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
JOB EXPERIENCE
- At least three years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field required.
- Experience in a zoo, theme park, or related facility is desired.
- At least two years of Supervisory/Management experience in any of the above fields preferred.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Card within 30 Days required.
- First Aid within 30 Days required.
- Adult/Child/Infant CPR with AED certification within 30 days required.
- Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of related safety and security measures, laws, codes, regulations, and specifications required.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures required.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills required.
- Effective leadership and team building skills required.
- Intermediate computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and general computer functions required.
- Ability to use hosted online automated systems and applications required.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations required.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) required.
- Ability to work well within a team and with individuals required.
- Law enforcement knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of lock repair and control systems, cash control, and guest relations preferred.
- Budget experience preferred.
