  • As the Director of Event Productions, you will be responsible for the development of the creative strategy, management, and production of seasonal consumer events, limited time exhibits, fundraising galas, and other special event projects as assigned. Reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.

  • Functional Priorities (including but not limited to):
  • Leads the execution of event concept designs, ensuring guest experience goals, budget parameters, and overall quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Partners with Zoo Executive Leadership to develop consumer event strategies that drive incremental attendance and revenue, attract new audiences, enhance repeat visitation, and support the Zoo’s mission.
  • Collaborates with Zoo divisions and external partners to coordinate resources required for the successful production and execution of events, ensuring objectives and goals are met or surpassed.
  • Leads collaborative efforts across teams to align and execute Zoo entertainment and event initiatives.
  • Manages the creation of project presentations for both internal and external audiences, effectively communicating project concepts, content, and progress.
  • Cultivates and manages relationships with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Leads team responsible for executing event logistics, producing scenic elements, managing audiovisual assets, and coordinating costumed character performances.
  • Recruits, trains, and assembles both internal and external creative team members to meet the Zoo's quality standards.
  • Designs programs that enable project team members to perform their roles effectively, safely, and efficiently, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned, needed or requested.
Experience Required
  • What are we looking for? Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Management, Event Management, Marketing or related field.
  • 7 – 10 years’ experience planning and developing strategy within the entertainment, attractions, or special event industries.
  • Proven creative and leadership experience.
  • Experience in hospitality, attractions and/or theatre is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a hands-on team. Able to work in labor-intensive conditions and dynamic outdoor environments with flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and special events such as Creatures of the Night and Christmas in the Wild. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and be ability to adapt well to various other computer programs and technologies including AutoCAD or other similar design programs a plus.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude with guests and employees.
  • Other Requirements Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold) Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
